  noteI like this vintage a little cooler. Surprisingly, that's where the barrel character comes to the fore. Less distinct and balanced as it warms. I experienced something similar with the BA Silhouette, so maybe it's my palate changing with all the big beers I've been drinking this winter. Really good when it's good, at those lower temps. Not refrigerator cold, but cooler than I typically drink by high gravity beers.

I don't know how Dan does it, but he adds huge fruit flavor without losing the beer-ness. Extremely refreshing and delicious. Surprised the ABV is as high as it is.

  notePhew. 13% is a lot. More than I want. As good as I remember the 2015 vintage being, that's a lot of alcohol. This one ended up quite sweet, even though it was chilled. It smoothed out a bit as it warmed but either my palate has changed (which it certainly has) or I just don't like this vintage as much. Still a great value since Stone doesn't gouge like some breweries at the larger format. I'll get to my other bottle of 2015 eventually and then see what I think. If it's worth continuing with a 13% stout.

  noteAfter four cans I'm ready to make my decision. I'm putting this in the category of don't drink again, not that good. Alcohol shows up way too much. I've had plenty of 9-10% IIPAs that weren't this sweet. Malt is way out of balance. The hop profile is pretty good, pleasantly bitter with musty, earthy, floral flavors. Great aroma and otherwise enjoyable but not worth the price or the alcohol. I'll take a NvU any day. Same price, more beer, less alcohol.

Very pleasant to drink, just the right balance of sweetness. Shows the 11% abv, though. Thinner than many consider ideal for big stouts but screw that, this is basically perfect. A little bitter but coffee doesn't overwhelm. Hits every bit as hard as the 11% listed. A bit of coffee, especially when colder. There's a boozy warmth and plenty of oaky vanilla barrel character without too much of the whiskey flavor itself. Eminently reasonable price, as it was came in a 3 pack with Rye on Rye and Tank 7. That was a bargain, although I haven't tried the Rye on Rye yet.
